Welcome To Your Own Way
About Mara wolfsen, LCSW
As long as I can remember, I have always enjoyed working with others and have been excited by each and everyone’s individual journey. I understand there is no one way to be successful and I believe in looking outside the box. This is how Your Own Way was created - because I believe in everyone’s path to creating their “own way” in this world.
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), I specialize in depression, anxiety, trauma, addiction/recovery issues and postpartum depression/maternal mental health.
I have a holistic approach in working with each individual and cater to each individual’s needs. You should feel special, safe, and comfortable in processing your specific journey. I understand that one of the most important aspects of your journey is that you are being heard!
My “own way” began long before graduate school. I had the opportunity to interview a recovering gang member who was helping young people to “jump out” of the gang culture. I was so inspired by their journeys and what led them to make decisions most would define as deviant. It was at this point I realized that I was meant to create a space for others to be heard and understood, without judgement. Isn’t that what we are all looking for?
After completing my undergraduate studies in Behavioral Sciences, I chose to continue my education with a Master’s Degree in Social Sciences from Bryn Mawr University in Pennsylvania. I became a LCSW in Pennsylvania where I began my career in Community Mental Health and Substance Abuse Treatment. After 2 years, in 1999, I returned home to California where I have been practicing ever since.
I am committed to working with individuals who are ready to make a positive change in their lives and attempting to do it their “own way”.
Nothing is more powerful than finding Your Own Way.
